Structure
A BOM is a tree. Stokka keeps it that way.
Most products aren't made in one step. A base formulation is mixed, held briefly, then filled into tubes. A tablet has a pre-mix that has its own pre-mix. Flattening that to a single list of raw materials hides the runs you actually schedule.
Stokka treats every sub-assembly as its own BOM with its own production cycle, stock position, and traceability lineage. The tree explodes recursively for live cost roll-up and where-used, and "What can I build?" checks stock at every level and names the exact bottleneck component, so you never plan a base run for base you already have.
When a sub-assembly shouldn't stand alone in the tree (a hardware pack, a pre-mix that's always made in-line), flag it as a phantom so the structure reads the way your shop thinks. Planning pass-through for phantoms arrives with the forecast-netting layer on the roadmap.

Bundle components on paper for readability. Planning ignores the wrapper and works straight off the real parts underneath.
Yield
Per-line yield and loss
Each component takes its own yield percentage. Stokka inflates the issue quantity so planned consumption matches real consumption.
Alternates
Approved substitutes with conversions
When the primary supplier is short, flag the approved alternate with its conversion factor. Purchasing knows both options instantly.
Versioning
Effective dates and change reason
Every BOM change carries a version number, effective date, and reason. Runs reference a specific version so audits resolve cleanly.

A production run is tied to a specific BOM version. The March batch and the July batch can carry different BOMs with clear audit lineage.
